How Much Carbon is in Your Attic?
Perhaps as little as five years ago, almost none of us knew what a carbon footprint was. If asked, we might have wondered if that was something we just stepped in.
Now, nearly everyone has a basic understanding of the term. With understanding comes action, for some.
So how much carbon is in your attic? Consider the old tax returns, investment statements, cancelled checks and healthcare receipts you have saved. Approximately 100 pounds of paper equals one tree. It doesn’t take a very big stack of paper to add up to 100 pounds.
If that paper was recycled, you could avoid the need to cut down a tree to make new paper. And one tree stores…here’s the number…14.5 pounds of CO2. And one tree produces enough oxygen that two people will breathe in a year.
But the reason those documents are in the attic is because 1.) you don’t want to throw them in the trash, or 2.) the recycling bin because you are concerned about identity theft. If they could be shredded first, then recycled, that would be comforting. We can help.
